Snowstorms and inclement weather couldn’t stop state lawmakers from returning to the golden globe building for the annual session.

The 2011 Georgia General Assembly convened on Jan. 10.

Lawmakers can meet no more than 40 business days, but official recesses usually extend those 40 days into late March.

On this page are the state legislators who represent districts in the Metro-Atlanta area. This year’s constitutionally mandated opening also brought some new faces to these districts. On Common Ground News has compiled your lawmakers’ contact information for our readers in DeKalb, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry and Rockdale counties.

Open to the Public:

All sessions of the House and Senate and all committee meetings are open to the public; daily schedules vary. The Georgia State Capitol is open to the public 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and is closed on weekends and holidays. Tracking the Bills Online:

Go to the Georgia Legislature site, for up-to-date information on bills being filed, as well as a current list of senators and representatives with biographical and other information. During the session, bills can be tracked on the site as they move through the House and Senate. The site, www.legis.state.ga.us, also explains the process by which bills become law.
