CSX and Benchmark Consulting have begun work on City of Conyers railroad tracks at Almand and Green streets.
City officials say they do not know how long the work on the crosstie replacement projects will take. The work will temporarily close selected railroad crossings in Conyers for about two weeks.
CSX crews will be performing maintenance at multiple Conyers’ railroad crossings and will conclude at Rockbridge Road. Benchmark Consulting estimates the crosstie replacement will take approximately two to three days per railroad crossing.
Residents can look for detour signs to be posted when the railroad crossings in Conyers will be affected and motorists will be encouraged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes. A closed road sign has already been put up at the Almand Street Railroad crossing.
Those with questions and concerns should contact the city’s Department of Public Works and Transportation at 770-785-6690.
