Faith Alliance to host anti-bullying talks

The Faith Alliance of Metro Atlanta will present “Supporting Schools: Understanding the Anti-Bullying Legislation,” session on Feb. 3, 12 p.m., at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, 48 Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. S.W., Atlanta.

The program will focus on how to make your school a safer place through legislature. Georgia Equality Executive Director, Jeff Graham and South East Region Associate Director of The Anti-Defamation League will explain the ant-bullying legislation.

 

 

Princess Diana exhibit at Civic Center

The Atlanta Civic Center, 395 Piedmont Ave. will be the last U.S. host site for “Diana: A Celebration,” an international exhibition that chronicles the life of the late Diana, Princess of Whales. The exhibit runs until June 13, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. The exhibit will return to England after it leaves Atlanta.

“A Celebration” showcases the life and humanitarian work of one of the 20th century’s most remarkable women through nine galleries containing more than 150 objects ranging from her royal wedding gown and 28 of her designer dresses to family heirlooms, personal mementoes, paintings, rare home movies and photos.

“An exhibition of this caliber, with emotional pull that Princess Diana evokes, is the type of exhibition that draws thousands of visitors from throughout the Southeast region,” said William Pate, Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau President and CEO. “This is a rare opportunity to see this award-winning, critically-acclaimed exhibition.”

Retirees Day at the Capitol

State Rep. Earnest “Coach” Williams (D-89) will host DeKalb County Retirees’ Day at the Capitol” on Feb. 9, 9 a.m., in the House Gallery at the Georgia State Capitol.

Activities include a tour of the capitol and meeting other state representatives. All retirees of DeKalb County are invited. Those who plan to attend should register in advance by calling 404-656-0202.

 

More help for DeKalb flood victims

The DeKalb Long Term Recovery Group (LTRG) has invited the Christian Reformed World Relief Committee to survey DeKalb residents impacted by last September’s floods to determine unmet construction needs.

The team will be in DeKalb Feb. 1 – 12.  A walk–in station will be available at the Northlake Church of Christ, 1625 Cooledge Road, Tucker. The center will be open from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6.

Property tax values reassessed

Gwinnett’s Board of Tax Assessor’s Office will be adjusting the 2010 tax value on thousands of  properties as assessors review real estate sales and foreclosure data.

Residents who think their property value should be included for an adjustment must file a Real Property Tax Return. The form allows residents to declare their opinion of the value of their property.

For those whose value is not accepted, a Notice of Change in Assessment will be mailed by mid April. The notice allows homeowners to appeal the assessment.

County commissioners set monthly meetings

Gwinnett County’s Board of Commissioners will hold two meetings this month. On Feb. 16, 10 a.m., the board will meet for its monthly work session. Later that day, the board will reconvene at 2 p.m. for the County business session.

The work session is held to cover issues such as County leases, public safety impact and several other fees that the Gwinnett Board must oversee or approve. Business sessions cover subjects such as County contracts, audits and program budgets.

Both sessions will be held in the county’s GJAC Auditorium, 75 Langley Drive, Lawrenceville. Meetings are open to the public unless otherwise stated by the board.
