| DeKalb Medical’s WOW van gets boost from New Birth |
|
New Birth’s First Lady, Elder Vanessa G. Long, recently presented a $7,000 donation to the DeKalb Medical Foundation for its Wellness on Wheels (WOW) program. The money was raised through her Heart to Heart 5K Run/Walk that was held last October. The donation will be used to help provide vascular screenings for the uninsured and underinsured in DeKalb County. “We could have supported so many different charities in DeKalb for the 5k Run/Walk, but it was clear to us that DeKalb Medical was a perfect fit,” said Elder Long. WOW, a community health program of the DeKalb Medical Foundation, is a traveling clinic that offers free preventive healthcare and health education to medically underserved communities in the Buford Highway corridor, Clarkston and south DeKalb County. New Birth members and visitors got the opportunity to tour the WOW Van, which was parked outside of the church on Feb. 21.
