STONE MOUNTAIN, GA– Summer Break is in full swing, and once again, the DeKalb County School District (DCSD) is providing free summer meals to students. Better known across the district as the Seamless Summer Option Program, all children aged 18 and younger can get nutritious breakfast and lunch meals at no cost to parents or guardians now through July 22.
“Studies show that nutritious meals impact a student’s well-being and academic performance. Those needs don’t end just because the school year does,” said Connie R. Walker, DCSD’s Executive Director of School Nutrition Services. “We see the faces of the families we’re serving and know that we are making a real difference by providing these meals during the summer months.”
The meals are available at any of the 70 district schools hosting summer school classes. Families are strongly encouraged to contact any summer school site for specific mealtimes and days of operation.
A complete listing of sites and other important information about the Seamless Summer Option Program is located at www.dekalbschoolsga.org/school-nutrition or by calling the DCSD Nutrition Office at 678- 676-1786.
The United States Department of Agriculture sponsors the program. For some students, meals consumed at school may be their only source of good nutrition. This program allows schools to continue addressing nutritional needs during the summer months.
