DeKalb highlights frontline workers during Annual Public Works Week

This week, DeKalb County joins the American Public Works Association(APWA) in recognizing its nearly 1,700 public works employees, 1,300 of whom are providing essential services to county residents during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since 1960, the APWA has sponsored National Public Works Week.  Across North America, more than 30,000 APWA members in the U.S. and Canada are using the week of May 17-23, 2020, to highlight the importance of public works.

DeKalb County’s Public Works Department include Fleet Management, Roads & Drainage, Sanitation, Transportation and Watershed Management. These professionals ensure residents, businesses and county employees have clean drinking water, paved roads, trash and recycling collection, alternative fuel, and design and land surveying. In essence, the Public Works Department keeps DeKalb County functioning.
