The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Unit, working with the U. S. Marshals, has arrested a suspect in the assault of a woman and kidnapping of her child.
Sheriff’s investigators arrested Emmanuel Elijah Singleton, 26, of Scottdale, Georgia on Friday, June 12, on warrants charging him with Aggravated Assault, Kidnapping, and Motor Vehicle Theft.
According to warrants issued on June 11, Singleton stabbed Morgan Alexander Byrd-Holmes several times at a Brockett Road apartment before stealing her vehicle with the victim’s baby inside. The warrant says Singleton is the victim’s ex-boyfriend and the baby’s father but that he did not have permission to take the child. The victim was hospitalized.
During the arrest, Singleton attempted to flee from being taken into custody. U.S. Marshals and sheriff’s deputies apprehended him in the stolen vehicle in Lithonia, where he was injured from apparent self-inflicted wounds. Emergency medical services were called to transport him to a hospital, where he is being held in sheriff’s office custody.
Upon release, Singleton will be transported to the DeKalb County Jail.
