Rockdale County activist Josie Dean urges community to wear U.S. flag colors to show support for Fulton District Attorney Fani Willis
ROCKDALE COUNTY, GA—Community activist Josie Dean is calling on the community to wear red, white and blue—the colors of the American flag—on Thursday, Aug. 24, as former president Donald Trump prepares to surrender to Fulton authorities. Trump and18 associates are charged in a lengthy indictment with attempting to overturn Georgia’s results in the 2020 presidential election, which Trump lost to Democrat Joe Biden.
Trump is seat to come to Atlanta on Thursday, after agreeing to be processed at the Fulton County Jail on a $200,000 bond. Scott Hall, a bail bondsman linked to stolen election data in Coffee County, GA, turned himself in on Monday, Aug. 21. John Eastman, the conservative attorney who pushed a plan to keep the former president in power, turned himself in on Tuesday, Aug. 22. The defendants have until Aug. 25 to surrender.
The indictment said in part that Trump and the co-defendants were part of a “criminal enterprise” that conspired to overturn Trump’s electoral defeat. Trump has denied the charges.
Dean, founder of the Black Man Never Forgets organization, held a press conference on Tuesday, Aug. 22, to urge the community to stand in solidarity with Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, who handed down the indictment against Trump and his associates. Dean said everyone should wear the colors of the American flag on Thursday to show unity because “no one is above the law.”
Dean said she is concerned about the welfare of District Attorney Willis and other Fulton County authorities who are involved in the high-profile case, asking the community to pray for them.
Last week, CNN reported that the FBI was looking into allegations of threats against Fulton County officials, including Willis. Threats reportedly have been made against employees for the role they will play in Trump’ surrender and that of his associates.
“She(Willis) is just doing her job and she should not have to deal with threats,” Dean said.
Gerald Rose, founder of the New Order National Human Rights Organization in Atlanta, said he is supporting Dean’s stance with regard to the Fulton District Attorney.
“It’s very important we stand behind the Fulton County DA because of the death threats, disrespect, security reasons towards her life…No one is above the Law even the former President of the United States,” Rose stated. “…Mr. Trump feels that he is untouchable, it seems. The goal now is to get a conviction.”
As part of Trump’s agreement to surrender, the court order stipulates that he shall not make intimidating posts on social media.
“The Defendant shall perform no act to intimidate any person known to him or her to be a codefendant or witness in this case or to otherwise obstruct the administration of justice,” the order signed by Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee states.
“The above shall include, but are not limited to, posts on social media or reposts of posts made by another individual on social media.”
