DeKalb football schedule has only 9 games on tap this week

DEKALB COUNTY, GA—It is a light week for catching DeKalb County football with only 9 games (10 teams) taking the field on Friday, Sept. 15.

Only three games are on tap in DeKalb stadiums, one of which features an All-DeKalb meeting between Southwest DeKalb (1-3) and Redan (1-2) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Godfrey Stadium.

This will be the 39^th meeting between the two teams with Southwest DeKalb holding a 32-6 meeting in one of the longestrunning matchups in DeKalb football history. The series features 12 games decided by seven points or less and five more by 10 points or less.

This year, former Southwest DeKalb coach Damien Wimes is at the helm of Redan after having won four consecutive meetings as the coach of the Panthers. Southwest DeKalb allowed a total of only 14 points in the last four games including a shutout.

The Raiders hold a win over Stone Mountain (28-21) and last played two weeks ago in a heartbreaking 15-14 loss at Tri-Cities. Southwest DeKalb opened the season with a win over South Atlanta and will be trying to stop a three-game skid as they face the Raiders.

Hallford Stadium is set for the Tucker Tigers (2-1) to host the Class 7A McEachern Indians (0-4) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Tucker enters the game wanting to rebound from a tough loss to Dacula week ago despite a 257-yard and two touchdown performance by running back Jordan McCoy. The Tigers have not fared well against the Indians losing all the three previous meetings including last year’s 51-20 defeat at McEachern.

The Indians are looking for their first win of the season as they hit the field at Hallford and are coming off a tight 7-13 loss to Newton a week ago.

The third game in DeKalb features Dunwoody (3-0) hosting Northview (0-3) in a 7:30 p.m. kickoff at North DeKalb Stadium on Friday. Dunwoody is 3-0 for the first time since 2008 when the Wildcats reached the quarterfinals of the state playoffs. Northview owns a 1-4 record against Dunwoody and the Wildcats are vying to make it two wins in a row following last year’s 48-0 win at Northview.

Dunwoody is coming off a 36-7 win over Druid Hills this past Saturday. Northview is coming off an open date following a 12-30 loss to Midtown two weeks ago. The other two losses for Northview were to DeKalb teams in McNair (7-25) and Lakeside (7-20).

Six DeKalb teams travel for games on Friday including a big, ranked team matchup as Class 3A No. 1 ranked Cedar Grove (2-2) hits the road for an 8:00 pm kickoff against Class 7A No. 3 ranked Mill Creek (3-0). Mill Creek won last year’s matchup in a 52-36 shootout.

Miller Grove (3-1) has put together three victories in a row as the Wolverines head to Central Gwinnett (2-2) for a 7:30 pm kickoff on Friday. The Wolverines are coming off a 38-18 win over and working towards going 4-1 overall for just the third time in school program history. The last time the Wolverines were 4-1 was 2021 and the only other season to reach that mark was a 6-1 start in 2012.

Central Gwinnett is coming off a 17-10 lost to Habersham Central last Friday.

McNair returns to action after a week off and travels to Flint River Academy (3-0) looking for the Mustangs third win of the season in a game set for 7:30 pm on Friday. McNair’s last game was a 28-22 win over North Clayton. The Mustangs are looking to go 3-1 for the first time since the 2012 season.
