ATLANTA – State Rep. Viola Davis (D–Stone Mountain) has been selected to receive the National Foundation of Women Legislators’ 2023 Elected Women of Excellence Award. Davis will be among 55 state legislators who will be honored at the 2023 Annual Conference on Nov. 16 – 18 in Orlando, Florida.
“It’s an honor to be recognized as a woman of excellence by such an esteemed organization like the National Foundation of Women Legislators,” said Rep. Davis. “I commend the foundation and their tireless efforts to support women legislators across the country. This organization has allowed women like me who serve in public office the opportunity to share accomplishments, overcome hardships and grow as leaders together.
I want to thank the foundation for their unwavering support of the many remarkable women who hold office in the United States and extend my gratitude and appreciation to my fellow recipients of this prestigious award.”
The Elected Women of Excellence Award was created to identify women who have worked tirelessly, often breaking down barriers to serve their communities. The award was first presented in 2013 as part of the National Foundation of Women Legislators 75th Anniversary Celebration to spotlight the hard work and dedication of women leaders across the country. This year, the foundation will be celebrating 85 years of service.
Rep. Davis represents residents of District 87, which includes portions of DeKalb County. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 2018 and currently serves on the Defense & Veterans Affairs, Insurance, Interstate Cooperation, Natural Resources & Environment and Urban Affairs committees.
