Rockdale incumbents Oz Nesbitt, Sherri Washington, Mandy North headed for run-offs

ROCKDALE COUNTY, GA—Rockdale Board of Commissioners Chairman Oz Nesbitt appears headed to a runoff with c in his bid for re-election, unofficial results show.

Since no candidate in the five-way race earned 50% plus one votes in the May 2 general primary elections, Nesbitt and VanNess as the two top finishers running for Chairman are expected to be in the runoff on June 18.

The Rockdale County Board of Elections and Voter Registration,1115 West Ave. S.W., Conyers, will certify the election results on Friday, May 24, 6:30 p.m., Conyers, as confirmation of candidates who will be in the runoff. The public may attend. 

Here are the unofficial results for the BOC Chairman’s race:

Oz Nesbitt received 41.67% (5,187 votes).

JaNice VanNess received 35.05 % (4,363 votes).

Richard Oden came in third with 10.51% (1,308 votes).

Brian Jenkins came in fourth with 10.23% (1,273 votes).

James Sendelbach placed fifth with 2.54% (316 votes).

 

Post 1 Rockdale Commissioner’s Race

Incumbent Sherri L. Washington  appears headed for a run-off with Tuwanya Smith, unofficial results show. No one in the six-way race earned 50 percent plus one votes, which means there will be  runoff between the top two candidates who earned the highest number of votes.

Washington received 43.48%  with 5,276 votes, while Smith received 24.92% with 3,024 votes.

Here’s how the other four candidates in the Post 1 Commissioner’s race stacked, according to unofficial results:

Yul Anderson, 4.94% (599 votes)

Arlan Gibson, 6.45% (783 votes)

Renee Harris Simpson, 15.33% (1,860 votes)

Fran Wright,4.88% (592 votes)

 

Rockdale County Board of Education Race

Incumbent Mandy North is headed in a runoff with Larry Cox in the Rockdale County Board of Education, Post 1 race, according to unofficial results.

North received 48.21% with 6,570 votes in the three-way race, while Larry Cox received 32.07% with 4,370 votes. Kevin Tate came in third, receiving 19.44% with 2,649 votes. North and Cox as the top two vote-getters are expected be in the runoff on June 18.

Rockdale County’s Voter Turnout

According to Rockdale’s unofficial election summary report,  the county had a 23.72 percent voter turnout with only 14,545 of 61,318 registered voters participating in the May 21 elections.
