DEKALB COUNTY, GA— DeKalb County Police and the DeKalb School District Police are investigating a school bus accident that sent about 19 students and the bus driver to nearby hospitals for evaluations today, Aug. 28.
A vehicle collided with the school bus and the bus ended up on its side in a ditch, the district said. No one was seriously injured, authorities reported.
District officials released the following statement concerning the accident:
“At around 8:20 a.m. today, DeKalb County School Bus 1929, which had approximately 25 Salem Middle School students on board, was reportedly struck by a private passenger vehicle on the 4200 block of River Road in Ellenwood.
As a result of the collision, the bus hit a pole and came to rest in a ditch on its side. Emergency response to the accident involved DeKalb County Police, DeKalb County Fire Rescue, DCSD Police, emergency medical personnel, and other DCSD Operations supervisors.
While there are no reports of serious injuries to anyone on the bus, the bus driver and around 19 students were taken to nearby medical facilities for evaluation and treatment as necessary, mostly by their family members.
DeKalb County Police are leading the investigation with support from DCSD Police.”
