ROCKDALE COUNTY, GA—Today, the Rockdale County Tax Commissioner’s Office held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new service center, located at 1088 West Avenue, Conyers.
Tax Commissioner Tisa Smart Washington said the new offices will better serve the community with the addition of public restrooms, a waiting area for overflow customers, expanded parking, and drive-through services.
To view the ribbon-cutting ceremony, covered exclusively by Glenn L. Morgan/On Common Ground News(ocgnews.com):
The county spent $1.6 million for the purchase and renovation of the Tax Commissioner’s Service Center and the Tax Commissioner’s Administration Office. Together, the two buildings total 6,716 square feet– 1,989 square feet more than the former 4,727–square-foot tax office on Pine Street in Olde Town Conyers. The acquisition of both buildings, located side by side on West Avenue, was part of the Rockdale County Judicial project approved in 2024 by the Rockdale County Board of Commissioners, Washington said.
The Tax Commissioner’s Administration Office, located at 1096 West Ave., previously was a dentist’s practice. The administration office handles questions from the public concerning property taxes, payment plans, and information about property tax sales, Washington said. A call center is located in the administration building to also address questions and an overflow lobby area is available for customers seeking assistance at the new service center. No tax payments or tags, however, are handled at the administrative offices.
The Tax Commissioner’s Service Center was formerly a Bank of America. Washington said as part of the acquisition, Bank of America stipulated that one of the three drive-through lanes would be used for ATM services for the next 3 years– through 2027.
The service center offers property tax services and motor vehicle (tags) on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The center is open on Wednesdays, 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
