DECATUR, GA–Six DeKalb County voting precincts received bomb threats, as well as two other locations that were not precincts on Election Day around 5 p.m. Officials said at 8:45 p.m. that police found no bombs at any of the sites.
DeKalb County Police Department performed bomb sweeps at the following locations:
Precincts:
- New Bethel AME Church, 8350 Rockbridge Rd., Lithonia
- North DeKalb Senior Center, 3393 Malone Dr., Chamblee
- Reid H. Cofer Library, 5234 Lavista Rd., Tucker
- Wesley Chapel Library, 2861 Wesley Chapel Rd., Decatur
- New Life Community Center, 3592 Flat Shoals Rd., Decatur
- Briarwood Recreation Center, 2235 Briarwood Way NE, Atlanta.
Threats were received at two locations that are not current polling locations:
- Stonecrest (Old Sam’s Club)
- Salem Panola Library, 5137 Salem Rd., Lithonia
As a precautionary measure for the safety of voters and poll workers, voting at the locations was suspended until DeKalb County Police gave clearance to reopen the facilities.
Once the locations were cleared, voters were able to re-enter the facility and cast their ballots.
The DeKalb County Law Department is in the process of seeking an emergency order extending the voting times at the affected polling locations.
