CONYERS, GA—Conyers City Manager Kameron Kelley has appointed two new department directors. Craig Mitchell, formerly deputy director of Public Works and Transportation, was named director of the department effective immediately. Alan Hackett was named director of Information Technology.
Mitchell joined the city of Conyers in 2018 and has served as deputy director since 2023. With more than 25 years of infrastructure construction experience, Mitchell holds numerous soil, water, and wastewater certifications. Mitchell is also certified by the National Association of Sewer Service Companies and by the Pipeline Assessment Certification Program.
Mitchell’s career includes experience in both the private and municipal sectors of infrastructure development. Mitchell’s responsibilities as director of Public Works and Transportation include overseeing the day-to-day operations of sanitation and recycling services, vehicle maintenance, stormwater projects, landscaping, street repairs, and engineering and implementation of the city’s SPLOST projects. Mitchell assumes the position formerly held by Chief Operating Officer Brian Frix.
“Craig is detail-oriented and well-versed in all aspects of public works. He brings significant experience to this position and the respect he’s earned in collaborating with utilities and government entities, as well as with the employees in the divisions of our Public Works and Transportation department, speaks to his character and capability in accomplishing all aspects of the job,” said Kelley.
Alan Hackett joined the city of Conyers in 2013. A Conyers native and graduate of Rockdale County High School, Hackett is a product of the Rockdale Career Academy’s Word-Based Learning Program in that he first interned with the city’s Information Technology department. After graduation, Hackett joined the city team and quickly rose through the ranks serving as a helpdesk technician, system engineer, system administrator, and IT manager before his promotion to director of IT. Hackett’s responsibilities include overseeing the design and implementation of new technology infrastructure for all departments, identifying and eliminating security risks within the city’s network, and developing long-term vision and goals for the city’s future technology infrastructure.
“I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Alan and supervised him as an intern, and later as an employee, in the IT department,” said City Manager Kelley. “Alan’s strong leadership qualities, industry expertise, and knowledge of the city’s IT systems and software make him a perfect fit in his new role as director.”
