DeKalb County, GA – The NAACP DeKalb County Branch presents its 23rd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parade, on Saturday, Jan. 18, starting at 10 a.m. from New Black Wall Street Market parking lot in Stonecrest, GA. This year’s parade has a new route. The new route proceeds from New Black Wall Street Market and concludes in the heart of Stonecrest, GA. Newly-elected DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson is the Grand Marshal.
“This year’s theme, ‘Still I Rise,’ captures the essence of Dr. King’s vision and reminds us of the strength within our community to overcome adversity,” said Edwina Clanton, President of NAACP DeKalb County. “With the support of our amazing partners and the leadership of Lorraine Cochran-Johnson, we are excited to honor Dr. King’s legacy in a way that inspires action and fosters unity.”
Schedule of Events:
- Parade Start: 10:00 a.m. at New Black Wall Street Market, Mall Parkway.
- Parade Route: From NBWS to the heart of Stonecrest, with bands, cheerleaders, civic and community organizations marching with the spirit of the drum major for justice.
- Rally at Privi, located outside of The Mall at Stonecrest: Immediately following the parade, featuring speeches, performances, and community engagement.
Parade Highlights:
- Grand Marshal CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson will lead the parade and deliver a keynote address at the rally.
- Community Partnerships: This year’s parade is made possible through collaborations with 100 Black Men of DeKalb County, Privi, the City of Stonecrest, and the New Black Wall Street Market.
- Rally at Privi’s Parking Lot: Following the parade, a rally will be held in the Privi parking lot, with Grand Marshal Lorraine Cochran-Johnson and a program of hope and courage.
