STONECREST, GA– The City of Stonecrest will host its 3rd Annual Childhood Cancer Awareness Family Fun Day on Saturday, Sept. 6, at the Browns Mill Aquatic Facility.
Spearheaded by District 5 Councilwoman Tammy Grimes, the event aims to honor the courage of children battling cancer, support their families, and unite the community around the cause.
According to the Rally Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research, 47 children are diagnosed with cancer in the U.S. each day. The average life expectancy for a child with cancer is just 8 years old.
“Young people and their families face an unimaginable amount of uncertainty from moment to moment,” said Councilwoman Grimes. “We are creating a space in time for them to simply be kids.”
The city will host children supported by the Rally Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research.
The free, family-centered event will feature pool time, food, resources, and entertainment. A special highlight of the day includes mermaid performances and water play with the children, adding a magical and memorable element to the afternoon.
The Family Fun Day is open to the public with registration.
“It’s important the entire community understands the seriousness of childhood cancer and the critical need for more resources,” Grimes added. “There are many ways we can make a meaningful impact.”
Attendees will have the opportunity to donate to the Rally Foundation during the event. In addition, the City of Stonecrest will host a blood drive at City Hall on Wednesday, Sept. 3, to aid the vital need for blood transfusions for children undergoing cancer treatment.
According to LifeSouth Community Blood Centers, one blood donation can save up to three lives.
