DEKALB COUNTY, GA—Unlike I-20 and I-285 on a typical morning or afternnoon, ,DeKalb Public Health is out to make sure your fall and winter routine is flu-free and full speed ahead…within legal limits, of course.
On Sat., Sept. 27, DeKalb Public Health will host a drive-thru vaccination event at the Lou Walker Senior Center, 2538 Panola Rd. in Lithonia, 9 a.m. until 1p.m. Pre-registration is not required.
Three variations of flu shot will be available – Fluarix, for children 6 months and older; Flublok for individuals 9 years and older, immunocompromised individuals, or those who would like a vaccine that may give a higher level of protection; and Fluzone High-Dose for individuals age6 65 years and older, providing a higher level of protection for this age group. In addition to flu shots, FluMist, a flu vaccine that is sprayed into the nose, will be available for children ages 6 through 18.
An update on the availability of the 2025-2026 COVID-19 vaccine for eligible age groups will be provided early next week.
Anyone receiving a vaccine should bring their insurance information and photo ID. These vaccines are available at no cost with most private insurance, Medicaid, and Medicare. If you are not insured or your plan doesn’t fully cover the cost, it’s available for a low cost. Cash, checks (drawn on banks with branch locations in Georgia), and credit/debit cards are accepted. To see if your insurance plan is accepted, visit the DeKalb Public Health website or call 404-294-3700.
