STONECREST, GA– As the federal government shutdown continues and millions of Americans brace for the suspension of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits beginning Nov. 1, New Birth Missionary Baptist Church is expanding its community food distribution initiative to help local families in need.
On Saturday, Nov. 1, beginning at 9 a.m., New Birth and its 501(c)3 nonprofit outreach ministry, The King’s Table (TKT), will provide food to more than 2,000 families on the church’s campus located at 6400 Woodrow Road in Stonecrest. The distribution will serve local residents, furloughed government employees, families directly affected by the halt in federal food assistance and any individual facing food insecurity.
“Moments like these reveal the gaps that faith and community must fill,” said Dr. Jamal Harrison Bryant, Senior Pastor of New Birth who noted TKT typically feeds 1,000 families per weekend distribution. “When government systems stall and families face hunger, the church cannot remain silent or still. We must respond with compassion, conviction, and action. New Birth is committed to standing in that gap and serving until every table is full. I believe that if we have the means to help, we have the responsibility to act.”
The King’s Table, one of the largest faith-based food distribution programs in the Southeast, operates year-round to provide fresh produce, meats, and pantry essentials to thousands of families across metro Atlanta every first and third Saturday of each month. In response to the shutdown’s growing impact, New Birth is also launching a canned food nonperishable item collection campaign and calling on community members, corporate partners, and civic organizations to join in the effort to strengthen its capacity to meet rising needs.
Partner organizations have also stepped forward to help address the crisis, supplying critical resources and logistical support to ensure New Birth’s expanded food distribution can reach as many families as possible. Partners and sponsors include World Vision, Publix, Bimbo Bakeries and more. Food is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
