DEKALB COUNTY, GA– DeKalb County Chief Executive Officer Lorraine Cochran-Johnson has appointed Greg Padrick as the new Chief of Police, marking a key step in the County’s agenda to prioritize public safety.
“Chief Padrick brings an extraordinary depth of experience, proven leadership, and an unwavering commitment to public safety,” Cochran-Johnson SAID. “For 28 years, he has served this county with integrity, and I am confident that under his leadership, the DeKalb County Police Department will continue to advance police excellence, innovation, transparency, and community-centered policing.”
During his tenure with DeKalb County Police Department, Padrick has served in key roles across multiple division. His career in public service began with the United States Marine Corps, where he developed the discipline, integrity, and leadership values that continue to guide his work today, Cochran-Johnson said.
Chief Padrick has gained comprehensive experience across both operational and investigative units. In the Uniform Division, he rose through the ranks from patrol officer to assistant chief, ultimately serving as Uniform Division Commander, where he oversaw patrol operations and frontline public safety initiatives.
In the Criminal Investigation Division, Chief Padrick served as a detective and supervisor in several specialized units, including the Homicide Unit, Auto Theft Unit, Narcotics Unit, HIDTA (High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area) Unit, and Intelligence Unit. His demonstrated skill and leadership led to his appointment as Criminal Investigation Division Commander, where he supervised major case investigations and strategic crime-reduction operations.
Chief Padrick also served within Internal Affairs and the Office of the Chief of Police, gaining a deep understanding of departmental operations, accountability, and organizational culture.
A distinguished graduate of the prestigious FBI National Academy (247th Session), Padrick’s professional development includes a number of distinguished and advanced leadership programs, including the Southern Police Institute’s Chief Executive Leadership Course, the International Association of Chiefs of Police Leadership in Police Organizations (LPO) Course, and multiple certifications from the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Council at every level.
