GWINNETT COUNTY, GA–The Gwinnett County Police Department will host a police officer hiring event Friday, Feb. 20, from 3 to 8 p.m., and Saturday Feb. 21, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Prior to attending the event, candidates must submit an application. Once an application has been received, an investigator will call to set up an appointment time for the event. Those who have submitted applications but do not have an appointment are still welcome, although wait times will be longer. You are not required to attend both days of the hiring event.

The process can take several hours, so applicants should plan accordingly. Those applying for the police officer positions are asked to register and schedule an appointment for this event in advance. Bring all documents requested by the investigator at the time of appointment.

Phase I of this hiring event will consist of an orientation, physical agility test, oral interview, psychological exam, and initial background check. Conditional Job Offers will be given to those who qualify. Phase II of the hiring process will take place later. The application process averages about 90 days for completion.

The Gwinnett County Police Department offers all officers a 4% annual raise and a 5% shift differential for Night Watch uniform patrol officers. Educational incentives of 3% for a 2-year college degree and a 6% incentive for a 4-year college degree are awarded to those who qualify.  Salary ranges from $55,923 – $86,090, with a hiring bonus 10% of starting pay.

Those who receive their final job offer will be offered immediate employment regardless of the start date for the next police academy.

The Gwinnett County Police Department is a nationally-accredited and rapidly growing police agency found in the northeastern quadrant of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The Department has an authorized strength of 931 sworn officers and 141 communications officers supported by 205 civilian employees with the responsibility of supplying law enforcement services to approximately over one million residents within an area of 436 square miles.

Gwinnett County Police Department is a full-service agency with numerous specialized units, including Computer Forensics, K-9, Aviation, Technology Research, Accident Investigations, Training, S.W.A.T., Crime Prevention, Hazardous Devices, and many more.

To become a police officer, applicants must have a high school diploma or G.E.D., be a United States citizen and eligible for P.O.S.T. Certification, have a valid driver’s license from their state of residency, and be 21 years old by the time they graduate from the police academy. During the application process, the background investigator will conduct a comprehensive background investigation to include the applicant’s criminal history and driving history.
