DEKALB COUNTY, GA—DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston announced a conviction by guilty plea in the case against Hannah Hackemeyer, now 20, who was charged in a single car crash that killed one passenger and injured two others in the Oak Grove community.
During a hearing on Feb. 11, Hackemeyer pleaded guilty to charges of Homicide by Vehicle in the First Degree, Serious Injury by Vehicle, Reckless Driving and Possession of an Open Container of Alcoholic Beverage in Passenger Area in connection with the wreck on Feb. 24, 2024. Hackemeyer, who was 18 at the time, struck a tree while driving. Lakeside High School student Sophie Lekiachville, 18, and two others riding in the vehicle with Hackemeyer were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. Lekiachville died from her injuries.
DeKalb County Superior Court Judge LaTisha Dear Jackson, who presided over the plea hearing, accepted Hackemeyer’sguilty plea and sentenced her to 10 years to serve two years on house arrest. As special conditions of her sentence, Hackemeyer must wear an ankle monitor, cannot operate a motor vehicle, must not consume or possess alcohol and drugs, must submit to random drug and alcohol screenings, must complete 240 hours of community service, and must participate in two MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) Victim Impact Panels.
Judge Dear Jackson granted Hackemeyer’s request to be sentenced under the First Offender Act, which means if she successfully completes her sentence, the record of her conviction will be sealed.
