GWINNETT COUNTY, GA– A Lawrenceville man has pled guilty to selling Fentanyl as part of a criminal enterprise that led to two fatal overdoses.
David “Capone” Shane Lancaster, 47, was linked to the deaths of Eldin Mehmedovic, 25, on May 23, 2023, and Sean Robert Wignall, 21, on Jan. 6, 2024. Lancaster pled guilty to Violation of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (R.I.C.O.), four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of sale of fentanyl, three counts of possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance.
Lancaster was sentenced to 30 years in prison followed by 10 years of probation.
“People are dying from these drugs, and we are going to ensure that those who keep dealing face serious consequences,” District Attorney Patsy Austin-Gatson said.
Police investigating the overdose deaths found that both victims were linked to a fentanyl dealer named “Capone.” When police arrested Lancester, his phone data showed that between May 2023 and March 2024 he operated a fentanyl and Methamphetamine distribution business called “Capone, Inc.” Evidence showed that Lancaster sold fentanyl and methamphetamine throughout Gwinnett County and was responsible for several overdose-related incidents, including the two deaths.
The DA’s Drug and Gang Task Force Managing Assistant District Attorney David Ian prosecuted the case with assistance from DGTF Investigator John Wilbanks. The Gwinnett County Police Department Special Investigations Section was invaluable in helping to prosecute this case, the DA’s Office stated.
