ROCKDALE COUNTY, GA—On April 15, the Rockdale County Board of Commissioners (BOC) will host a Community Listening Session on proposed updates to the county’s Unified Development Ordinance (UDO).
The UDO focuses on regulating residential and commercial development, design and aesthetics standards, zoning, signage, and parking, and protecting natural resources within the county. Basically, the UDO guides how land can be developed and used in the county. The proposed updates would address such issues as the saturation of certain businesses and residential developments, among other concerns that have been raised by residents.
Why is the Community Listening Session critical?
Rockdale is in the final stages of a major update of its UDO, a process that began in Spring 2025 and is expected to be adopted by the Board of Commissioners in Spring 2026.
On March 14, 2025, the BOC implemented a 180-day moratorium on new residential development applications in order to review and update its UDO. One of the main goals for updating the UDO is expanding diverse housing for Rockdale’s growing population.
Why Community Input Matters
Community feedback will help shape how Rockdale County grows and develops. Community members (residents, business owners, houses of worship leaders and representatives of other entities) are encouraged to attend the listening session to review key sections of the UDO and share their feedback.
The Rockdale County Planning and Zoning Department’s staff members will be available to answer questions and will document all comments and concerns for consideration.
