GWINNETT COUNTY, GA– A Dacula man has been convicted of sharing sexual videos and photographs of toddlers through social media, the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office announced on July 24.
Patrick Joseph Abedamowo, 29, pled guilty to 10 counts of sexual exploitation of children for distributing the child pornography online from his home. A judge sentenced the defendant to 30 years with 10 to serve in prison and ordered him to register as a sex offender.
“The defendant’s actions are unconscionable,” District Attorney Patsy Austin-Gatson said. “We are steadfast in our determination to protect the most vulnerable of our population.”
Prosecutors presented evidence during a plea hearing that included videos of toddlers being sexually abused by grown men, the District Attorney’s Office said. The videos were shared by the defendant on the Kik social media platform. The defendant’s attorney told the Court that the videos posed “no harm” and requested that his client only serve probation.
The judge denied the request, ordering the 10-year prison term as part of the sentence, followed by 10 years of probation.
Special Victims Unit Managing Assistant District Attorney Megan Matteucci prosecuted the case with assistance from Investigator Jessica Pironis and Victim Witness Advocate Wonsiah Kermah. The case was investigated by the national Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, which, in this case, included the Gwinnett District Attorney’s Office, the Georgia Bureau of Investigations, and the Gwinnett County Police Department.
