DeKalb County Parks to host beekeeping program at E.M.B.A.R.C. Farm Aug. 29

LITHONIA, GA– DeKalb County Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs will host a Beekeeping Program for participants ages 10 and up on Saturday, Aug. 29, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at E.M.B.A.R.C. Community Youth Farm, 1185 Rock Chapel Road, Lithonia.

Whether you are curious about beekeeping, interested in gardening and pollinators, or simply looking for a unique outdoor experience, this hands-on program offers participants a rare opportunity to step into the fascinating world of honeybees. 

Participants will suit up in protective beekeeping gear and enjoy a safe, up-close look inside active hives as bees work throughout the colony. During this hands-on experience, participants will learn the basics of beekeeping, explore how a bee colony functions and discover the important role pollinators play in our food system and environment. The program will also give participants an opportunity to learn about the honey-harvesting process and assist with extracting honey from the farm’s hives.

E.M.B.A.R.C. staff and Ed Morgan of The Atlanta Bee Company will supervise all activities and guide participants through the beekeeping and honey-extraction process. Spots are filling up fast, and registration is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants are encouraged to register early   to secure their spot and join the buzz.
