GWINNETT COUNTY, G—Anannya Aneesh, a senior at Mountain View High School and member of the USA Women’s Under-19 (U19) Cricket Team, is headed to the World Cup in 2027.
“It feels amazing to be part of the team that helped qualify USA to the U19 World Cup because it’s been my dream for so long,” Anannya says. “I’ve always strived toward representing the country on the world stage and I’m glad that I could be part of the team while accomplishing such a huge feat.”
The USA Women’s U19 team won all six of its matches during the 2026 International Cricket Council (ICC) U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Americas Qualifier held in August in the Cayman Islands. This will be the USA team’s third consecutive Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup appearance.
Anannya discovered her passion for cricket while watching the Indian Premier League (IPL), a professional T20 cricket league in India, with her father. She started playing at 11 and never looked back. Anannya says she practices three to four days a week and plans out her homework and projects so she can manage her time wisely.
“The thing I most enjoy about it is that it helped me meet so many new people and make so many friends with whom I am still close with today,” she adds. “I also love that it has taught me so many lessons such as teamwork and perseverance which I could not have learned anywhere else.”
Anannya will continue playing cricket after high school and has plans to move back to India after graduation to play the sport there. Right now, she is focused on graduating from Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) and playing for the USA at the U19 World Cup in 2027.
The ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup will be co-hosted by Bangladesh and Nepal in 2027.
