DECATUR, GA ––A man wanted in connection with the July 23 road rage murder on I-285 has been arrested, the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office announced today, Sept. 9.
Investigators took Raul Antonio Escobar-Paz, 45, into custody without incident at a Gwinnett County residence. He was transported to the DeKalb County Jail, where he is being held without bail, authorities said.
DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Process Fugitive Unit, with assistance from the DeKalb County Police Gang Unit and the U.S. Marshals made the arrest.
Esobar-Paz was wanted on multiple warrants following a vehicle collision and subsequent altercation on July 23, 2026, in which Tyler Sieber, 26, was fatally shot. The incident occurred at I-285 West and Buford Highway around 10:30 p.m. in DeKalb County.
According to the preliminary investigation, a vehicle abruptly clipped a truck driven by the victim's father, Anton Sieber, causing the truck to go into a full spin in the middle of highway traffic.
Tyler Sieber was driving behind his father in a separate vehicle and witnessed what happened. He followed the suspect’s vehicle and rear-ended it. Investigators said both drivers got out of their vehicles and were yelling when Esobar-Paz began shooting, hitting the young man multiple times before driving away. Sieber later died from the injuries.
Anton Sieber said the suspect stole his son’s cellphone and broke it into pieces to hide photographic evidence.
Esobar-Paz’s charges include Malice Murder, Aggravated Assault Weapon, Armed Robbery Weapon, Hit and Run, Tampering with Evidence, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony.
“The operation demonstrates DeKalb County Sheriff Melody M. Maddox’s continued commitment to locating and apprehending violent offenders and enhancing public safety through coordinated law enforcement efforts,” the Sheriff’s Office said.
