GWINNETT COUNTY, GA – A Mississippi man was found guilty of sexually abusing a teenaged girl.
A Gwinnett County jury found Caleb Jamal Burton, 25, guilty of aggravated sexual battery, aggravated child molestation, and six counts of child molestation for sex acts he committed against a 15-year-old girl in 2021 when he was 19. He was sentenced to 30 years to serve 25 in prison.
“We are pleased that this outcome can begin to bring some closure to this victim and her family,” Gwinnett District Attorney Patsy Austin-Gatson said. “And we are thankful for the trial team who worked diligently for this result.”
Between April and November of 2021, Burton forced the teen to endure a variety of sex acts against her will at a home in Suwanee. When the victim reported the abuse to her family, the defendant returned to Mississippi where he subsequently was arrested and extradited back to Gwinnett County.
During trial, jurors saw three hours of the victim’s forensic interview from 2021. The jury deliberated for three hours before returning guilty verdicts.
Special Victims Unit Assistant District Attorney Dallas Cox and Assistant District Attorney Nicole Eck prosecuted the case with assistance from SVU Investigator Joseph Boyd and SVU Victim Witness Advocate Rocio Pineda.
The Suwanee Police Department was instrumental in helping to prosecute this case.
