DECATUR, GA– DeKalb County Chief Executive Officer Lorraine Cochran-Johnson has declared a local State of Emergency as Hurricane Isaias approaches the northern Gulf Coast and threatens north and central Georgia with severe weather.
The local declaration supplements Gov. Brian Kemp’s State of Emergency and authorizes DeKalb County to deploy the resources necessary to prepare for, respond to and recover from the storm.
The DeKalb County State of Emergency took effect upon signature on today, Oct. 9, and will remain in effect through 11:59 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, unless extended.
County Closures and Cancellation
Emergency Shelters Open Friday
To help people find safe shelter, DeKalb County will open emergency shelters at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, and will continue services Saturday.
Shelter locations:
- Frontline Response International: 2585 Gresham Road SE, Atlanta, GA 30316
- Golden Door Event Center: 2944 Ember Drive, Decatur, GA
- South DeKalb Day Center at New Life Community Alliance: 3592 Flat Shoals Road, Decatur. Open Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Residents may arrive directly at Frontline Response International beginning Friday at 5 p.m.
Need transportation? Call Frontline Response Dispatch at 404-334-3610 to arrange transportation to a shelter. Pickup routes will operate Friday evening throughout DeKalb County, with final transportation sweeps concluding at 10 p.m.
Residents should call 911 only for life-threatening emergencies. Non-life-threatening public-safety matters may be reported by calling 404-294-2911.
