ATLANTA — Several items were introduced during the Jan. 5 organizational meeting of the City Council that will be considered in committee next week, including:
- An ordinance requiring primary, street-fronting pedestrian entrances of all buildings, except for single-family and two-family structures, to provide push-button activators that enable easy access to buildings and public spaces for people with disabilities and mobility aids.
- An ordinance amending the Atlanta Sign Ordinance to change the definition of “public entertainment district” and allow, under certain circumstances, the use of projection and wrap signs upon Council activation of a public entertainment district in conjunction with large downtown entertainment events.
- A resolution enabling the City, along with its implementation partner Westside/Howell Mill Community Improvement District (CID), to apply for and if awarded, accept federal funding for the Collier Road Multi-Use Path Preliminary Engineering Project. If funding is awarded, the CID will provide required local matching funds.
- An ordinance for a special use permit for a community center at 2345 and 2327 Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway, NW, to be developed by L.E.A.D, an Atlanta-based nonprofit organization with a mission to advance equity and well-being through youth sports, with a focus on baseball and tennis.
Also, District 10 Councilmember Andrea Boone was selected as president pro-tempore of the Council, while President Overstreet named District 6 Councilmember Alex Wan to a four-year term on the Piedmont Park Conservancy Board.
About the Atlanta City Council
The Atlanta City Council is the chief policy-making body for the City of Atlanta. It acts by considering and enacting all laws that govern the City. The Council also approves the operating and capital budgets for the City as recommended by the mayor, and it continually monitors revenues and expenditures for local government operations.
