ATLANTA — District 4 Atlanta City Council member Jason Dozier issued the following statement in the wake of a triple shooting at a southwest Atlanta apartment complex early Tuesday morning that left two teen boys dead and a third injured. All three victims range from 12 to 14 years old, city officials said.
“I am deeply saddened by the tragic shooting that occurred last night in Oakland City. Two young lives were lost because of gun violence, and another young soul was critically injured. The ages of all three victims range from 12 to 14 years old, underscoring the senselessness of this act. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the victims during this challenging time,” Dozier said.
“I have been in communication with the Atlanta Police Department, the school social worker, community representatives, and the City of Atlanta’s Office of Violence Reduction to ensure that we are doing everything possible to support those affected by this senseless act of violence. We are working collaboratively to provide resources and assistance to the victims’ families, as well as to the broader community that this event has deeply shaken.
“The safety and well-being of our residents, especially our young people, are paramount, and this tragic incident underscores the urgent need to address the root causes of gun violence in our communities,” Dozier continued. “The City of Atlanta is committed to working tirelessly to implement effective violence reduction strategies, increase community engagement, and provide the necessary support to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.”
The council member urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist in the investigation.
