“One of our ‘badges’ is our training program,” said APD Major Richard Smythe. “We are regionally and nationally recognized within our community.” Those who make it through can expect to earn between $52,865 and $64,318. Most new officers are new recruits; laterals are only a small percentage.”
“There’s a lot of room for growth in the Department,” added Lieutenant Toya Young. “Any expertise, we’ve got it—from motorcycles to horses and helicopters to detective work in many different areas to joining a federal task force.”
Furthermore, the APD frequently plays a pivotal role in ensuring public safety during globally prominent events such as the Super Bowl, Music Midtown, and the upcoming 2026 World Cup.
The APD eagerly anticipates sharing its mission, values, and experiences with potential team members during the Sept. 16 event. For more information about the event, please visit joinatlantapd.org/events.
