ATLANTA — National civil rights and personal injury attorney Ben Crump and the family of U.S. Senior Airman Roger Fortson will hold a news conference on Thursday(May 16) to provide updates on the case. Crump, who is representing the family, will be joined family members, to discuss the case. The family will announce funeral arrangements and address how they and Fortson’s beloved dog, Chloe, are doing. Chloe was with Fortson in his off-base apartment in Florida when deputies shot and killed him on May 3. The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office stated that a deputy was responding to a disturbance in progress and acted in self-defense when he opened fire and shot Fortson six times after Fortson opened the door to the apartment.
Roger Fortson enlisted in the military after graduating from McNair High School in DeKalb County with honors and had no criminal record. By all accounts, he was a stellar member of the Air Force and loved by his community, a news release stated.
Pastor Jamal Bryant will deliver the eulogy at the funeral and Attorney Crump will deliver a call for justice.
A live stream for the funeral can be found on New Birth Missionary Baptist Church’s YouTube page and website.
