8:45 p.m. Update: DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management (DWM) crews are making repairs to a water main break along Clifton Road near Oxford Road. Customers in the area may experience low to no water during the repair. Bottled water is available for affected residents at the following locations: Emory University Hospital loading dock, 1364 Clifton Road Student Center loading dock, 605 Asbury Circle DeKalb County will provide updates about the progress of the repairs. GWINNETT COUNTY, GA—A 23-year-old woman has been charged with the death of her child who was found with multiple stab wounds in an apartment fire. The child has been identified as 6-year-old Jayveon Pruitt, Gwinnett County Police said in a news release today, Oct. 24. The young boy’s mother, A’zaria Shante Burton, of Peachtree Corners, has been charged with Malice Murder, Felony Murder, Arson 1st Degree, Aggravated Assault, Tampering with Evidence, Possession of a Knife during the Commission of Certain Crimes, and Cruelty to Children 1st Degree. WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Hank Johnson (GA-04) announced that Georgia was awarded $83 million in funding for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). It’s part of $3.7 billion being released nationwide to help lower heating costs for American families this winter. DECATUR, GA– A partial lane closure will occur on West Ponce de Leon Avenue, between Clairemont Avenue to Marshall Street, beginning Tuesday, Oct. 24, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The partial lane closure will allow DeKalb County Watershed to begin daytime work to repair a failed sewer main in the 100 block of West Ponce de Leon Avenue, weather permitting.   Signs and flaggers will be in the area during the road closure to advise motorists of construction work in the area and of local traffic restrictions. ATLANTA – The MARTA Police Department (MPD) is offering another opportunity for patrons who own Kia and Hyundai vehicles to receive a steering wheel lock. Through a partnership with car manufacturers Kia and Hyundai, MARTA received 640 steering wheel locks to help deter and prevent thefts after a spike in incidents involving those vehicles.
