DULUTH, GA—Gwinnett County will celebrate cultures from around the world on Saturday, May 13, at its open house and festival celebration. The family-friendly event will be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Gwinnett Place Mall, 2100 Pleasant Hill Road, Duluth. There will be cultural performances, face painting, bounce houses, obstacle courses, and car seat checks. A naturalization ceremony will be held to welcome the county’s newest citizens. Teresa Hardy has been elected as the new president of the National Council of Negro Women(NCNW)-DeKalb County Section. Hardy, a long-time South DeKalb community activist who formerly served as president of the NAACP DeKalb County branch, will succeed Derrica Williams. Hardy will be installed in September. DECATUR, GA– The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Unit on Tuesday(May 9) arrested a suspect charged with offenses related to domestic partner disputes. The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jarrell Wright, 32, of Decatur without incident on warrants charging him with the following: Home Invasion in the First Degree, two counts of Armed Robbery Weapon, two counts of Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, and Criminal Damage to Property in the First Degree – all Felonies; and, Battery Family Violence First Offense and Cruelty to Children in the Third Degree – both Misdemeanors. DECATUR, Ga.—DeKalb County Sanitation Department will discontinue operations in a waste disposal area, or cell, currently in use at the Seminole Landfill. Once operations discontinue in the current cell, located near the Rock Mill neighborhood, no additional solid waste will be placed near this community. The cell will be covered with dirt and grass will be planted on top of it. Construction of a new cell began in November 2022 and is expected to be complete by June 1.
