GWINNETT COUNTY, GA–District 3 Commissioner Jasper Watkins III has been nominated to the Health Steering Committee of the National Association of Counties. NACo president James Gore confirmed Watkins’ nomination in a congratulatory letter, county officials announced today, Aug. 15. ATLANTA In June 2023, the Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has awarded a total of 13 projects valued at approximately $104,342,160.94. The largest single investment, worth approximately $78 million, is a reconstruction project that will widen and reconstruct the existing diamond interchange on US 278/I-20/SR 402 at SR 20 in Rockdale County. GWINNETT COUNTY, GA – A man who led a Georgia State Trooper on a high-speed chase that ultimately ended in the lawman’s death will serve 17 years in prison. Gerson Danilo Ayala-Rodriguez, 21, on Wednesday, Aug. 14, pled guilty to first-degree vehicular homicide in connection with the death of Trooper Jimmy Cenescar. In addition to the felony charge, Ayala-Rodriguez also was convicted on misdemeanor charges of reckless driving, speeding, two counts each of driving without a license, operating a vehicle without insurance, and operating an unregistered vehicle. Property owners can access bills online, make payments, sign up for notifications to avoid mail delays DEKALB COUNTY, GA– DeKalb County property tax bills can now be accessed online today, Aug. 15. The tax commissioner’s office recently began mailing nearly 260,000 bills to property owners for the 2024 tax year. The first and second installments are due Sept. 30 and Nov. 15. ATLANTA – The MARTA Police Criminal Investigations Unit (CIU) and the Atlanta Police Department (APD) Fugitive Task Force have arrested Xavier Mosley, 38, who was wanted for shooting a male victim multiple times at the Arts Center MARTA Station on Aug. 11.
