STONECREST, GA—Belinda’s Southern Cuisine has closed after nearly a four-year run in the city of Stonecrest.
The white tablecloth linen restaurant, known for its Sunday-style soul food dinners throughout the week, served its last customers on Aug. 3, 2024, owners Belinda Hull and Bobby Hubbard announced today, Aug. 10.
Hull told On Common Ground News that she and her husband, Bobby, have decided to retire after dedicating themselves to their passion for serving homecooked meals in an upscale environment in the historic City of Stonecrest.
The restaurant, which opened in November 2020, drew not only locals but visitors from across metro Atlanta and beyond. Often, Belinda would come out of the kitchen and take pictures with guests, many saying they were from out of town and had heard about the restaurant through social media. She would stop by and chat with locals as well, check on them during the meal to see if they were enjoying their meal. She and her husband worked alongside of one another with other cooks in the kitchen, preparing Belinda’s recipes.
“We absolutely loved what we did. Feeding people was a God-led vision for me. Opening Belinda’s Southern Cuisine followed the restaurant we had on Panola Road for four years,” said. “We wanted to create an even bigger, more upscale restaurant.”
Hull said the 5,000-square-foot building in the city of Stonecrest is up for sale.
“I’ve listed it. I’m hoping to sell it quickly,” said Hull, who has been a real estate agent with REMAX for over 30 years.
Hull said, however, closing the restaurant is bittersweet.
“We continued operations even through our health challenges. It’s time for us to retire, enjoy our lives,” said Hull, who had a heart attack two years ago and is 73, the same age as her husband, who also is dealing with health challenges.
Hull has been a long-time community servant. She served on the Stonecrest Development Authority for two years and she ran for the Stonecrest City Council last year. She was honored with the Living Legend Award by the DeKalb County School District as an outstanding businesswoman in the community. She also was inducted into the Remax Hall of Fame in 2004 for earning over $1 M in commissions for selling “one home at a time.”
Hull said she and her husband are planning a customer appreciation dinner for loyal customers. She has not set a date. She can be contacted at belindassoutherncuisne.com.
The Hulls released the following statement:
“To all of my wonderful Customers. This was a bitter sweet decision. My husband, Bobby and I have decided to retire. Therefore; we have decided to close Belinda’s Southern Cuisine Restaurant … This is a very sad day for me because, I love you all so much and will miss each and everyone of you… Your undying support has been awesome.
Bobby and I have both been working for over 60 years. Our health is not like it used to be…. We are tired and need to slow down and try to enjoy the rest of our years left on this earth. I will still do some catering from time to time. Just remember I am just a phone call away if you need me.
I am not saying goodbye, I am just saying see you later…… I love you all!!!”
