STONECREST, GA – The City of Stonecrest is celebrating Earth Day during the month of April with the announcement of the Mammoth sunflower and the Bald Cypress tree as the City’s official flower and tree. The city also will host an Earth Day Summit to bring awareness to the outdoors and to connect attendees with Stonecrest’s natural environment on Saturday, April 22.
“Earth Day is every day in the city of Stonecrest,” said Mayor Jazzmin Cobble. “I am excited to celebrate our planet, and recognize the natural treasures located in our own backyard, such as South River and the Arabia Mountain National Heritage area. I hope that residents as well as visitors who discover our city through travel and tourism, will each have an opportunity to explore the beauty of Stonecrest in April and all year long.”
The Earth Day Summit will bring awareness and connect attendees with Stonecrest’s natural environment. The program will feature Audrey Peterman, president and co-founder of Earthwise Production, Inc, as the keynote speaker, and include a panel discussion with other leaders, educators and naturalists who will offer insight and stewardship options for attendees.
“We are truly a connected community,” said Ben Dillard, director of Parks and Recreation. “The information shared during this event will give attendees the resources and information they need to help preserve our beautiful parks, waterways and natural landscapes.”
The Earth Day Summit is free and open to the public. The program will take place at Privi Stonecrest, which is located at the Mall at Stonecrest, 8020 Mall Parkway, Stonecrest. For a listing of the City’s community events, visit www.stonecrestga.gov.
