STONECREST, GA — On Wednesday, Feb. 21, Congressman Hank Johnson announced the winners of his 2023 App Challenge competition at Arabia Mountain High School, located in the City of Stonecrest.
Johnson honored three students from Arabia Mountain — Aubrey Allen, Jasmine Stamper, and Ariel Hibbert — for their winning app, Telepsy, a mobile application designed to simplify and enhance epilepsy management.
This year’s challenge witnessed unprecedented participation with more than 70 students from seven schools who submitted a total of 23 apps.
Johnson also recognized two of the three App Challenge judges, Laron Walker for his accomplishments in emerging technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence, robotics, and hydroponics; and Daniel A. Moore for his contributions to Black Hstory as the CEO and founder of the Apex Museum in downtown Atlanta.
“Today, we’re not only celebrating future app developers, computer scientists, and engineers but also honoring Black History in this month of February,” Johnson said. “The App Challenge aims to foster coding and computer science engagement, and I’m honored to celebrate all the students who participated this year, especially given the exponential growth projected in STEM occupations.”
Johnson awarded all students from throughout the Fourth District with certificates for participating in the Challenge. The winners received Black Americans in Congress books, Congressional pens, Constitutions, and gift cards. They also have been invited to attend the House of Code science event in Washington D.C. this spring.
