CONYERS, GA—The city of Conyers is launching a Storm Assistance Program (SAP) for city residents without the means to pay for removal of downed trees and debris as a result of the EF2 tornado on April 3.
A map of areas affected by the storm in the city limits has been generated and includes Woodland Road, Springwood Drive, College Avenue, Green Valley Drive, South Hicks Circle, Hope Lane, and the Forest Villas and Pinedale subdivisions. Residents along these roads and in these neighborhoods will be targeted first for storm cleanup assistance.
The city has allocated $50,000 in funds toward the cleanup program. Residents in the storm’s path with significant downed trees as a result of the storm on their property may apply for the city’s Public Works and Transportation certified arborist to evaluate the damage and make the determination of removal of trees and debris. The city has contracted with a licensed tree removal company that will schedule an appointment to remove the trees.
Applications for the SAP can be found on the city’s website at www.conyersga.com/residents/storm-assistance-program, via flyers distributed in areas hardest hit by the storm and at Conyers City Hall, 901 O’Kelly St., Conyers.
Once applications are reviewed, residents will be contacted by a city employee and a right-of-entry form will be issued and completed by the property owner prior to evaluation of the storm damage. The deadline for submitting an application for the SAP is Tuesday, April 30, 2024.
“City crews and our residents with the means to do so have done a fantastic job cleaning up so quickly after the tornado,” said Mayor Vince Evans. “We are fortunate to be in a position to assist those who want to clean up their yards, but may not have the funds available to do so, and to take care of it with assistance of city staff and a capable and reliable tree service. It’s our hope that we’re able to help and provide peace of mind to a good number of residents in what can be a stressful and costly process.”
