CONYERS, GA—The Conyers Police Department was reaccredited at the fall Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) Conference, which was held Nov. 8-12 in Bellevue, Washington state near Seattle.
Conyers Police Chief Scott Freeman announced the reaccreditation at the Nov. 15 City Council meeting and praised the Police Department for meeting the 361 standards required by CALEA. Freeman and the command staff went before the Commission and were approved on Nov. 11.
Freeman said that currently, 790 of an estimated 18,000 law enforcement agencies across the nation have earned the accreditation by CALEA. The Conyers Police Department is one of 50 in Georgia that holds the distinction, he said.
“We couldn’t do it without the support of each and every one of you,” Freeman told the City Council. “…You are one of the main reasons we are so successful as a department and we’re very proud to serve and protect the citizens that you’ve been elected to serve.”
City Councilmember Connie Alsobrook, chair of the Police Department’s Public Safety Committee, accompanied Freeman and the command staff, along with the city’s Chief Financial Officer Isabel Rogers, to Washington state for the accreditation.
“It was just a proud moment to see our Police Department up there and get recognized,” Alsobrook said.
Mayor Vince Evans applauded the Police Department and thanked Chief Freeman for the outstanding accomplishment.
