Conyers-Rockdale Library receives new machine, patrons can now easily search history records over 200 years old

CONYERS, GA—The Nancy Guinn Memorial Library has replaced its old microfilm reader/printers with the all-in-one ScanPro 2200, thanks to a generous donation by the Friends of the Library (FOL) group.

With the ScanPro 2200, patrons can view 16mm, 35mm, fiche, and jacketed fiche while researching old newspapers, census records, slave record, American Ancestry records and more.

The library received the ScanPro 2200 microfilm machine under the FOL past president Linda Kelly during the pandemic. The ScanPro 2200 is an all-in-one printer, scanner for research, and a conversion scanner for roll film, fiche, and jacketed fiche.

The library’s microfilm collection includes:

• Conyers Newspapers: 1878-2007
• American Ancestry Records before 1776
• Revolutionary War Soldier Records (Georgia)
• National Archives: Georgia Counties 1820-1920
• Georgia 1880 Census
• Slave Schedules 1850 & 1860
• Colonial Records of Georgia: 1732-1805
• North Carolina 1810 Census
• North Carolina 1850 Slave Schedule
• Virginia 1850 Census
• Virginia 1850 Slave Schedule

Library officials say the ScanPro 2200 is easy to use and located in the Computer Center study room.

The Conyers-Rockdale Library System presented a plaque to the Nancy Guinn Memorial Friends of the Library during this month’s last board meeting.

The Friends group is comprised of citizens of the Rockdale County community who believe that a public library is a valuable intellectual, cultural, educational, and recreational resource in the community.
