CONYERS, GA– Conyers will host its annual Arbor Day celebration on Wednesday, Feb. 26, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the Big Haynes Creek Nature Center. Hosted by Mayor Vince Evans and the Georgia International Horse Park staff, this event will take place at the nature center’s Pollinator Education Garden.

The celebration will focus on planting vital host plants for butterflies and bees, reading nature-inspired poetry, and learning how to support Monarchs and other important pollinators as the spring season approaches. A ceremonial planting will be held during the event and the Georgia Forestry Commission also will be on hand distributing native tree saplings to participants while offering tips on supporting butterfly habitats.

The Arbor Day celebration also marks the launch of the third annual “Treasures in the Trees” scavenger hunt. Participants can kick off their hunt with a guided plant and tree identification walk led by the Rockdale County Master Gardeners. As part of the narrative walk, explorers will be invited to search for decorative blossoms along the trails of the Big Haynes Creek Nature Center and in the Olde Town Conyers area, where new blossoms will be placed each week. These blossoms will lead up to the much-anticipated Conyers Cherry Blossom Festival on March 22-23. Find a blossom and bring it to the festival’s information booth to exchange it for a unique, handcrafted piece of art created by one of the festival’s featured artisans.

“We’re thrilled to celebrate Arbor Day in a way that both educates our community about the environment and builds excitement for the upcoming Cherry Blossom Festival,” said Mayor Vince Evans. “The Pollinator Education Garden is the perfect location for people to learn how they can help nature thrive, while the ‘Treasures in the Trees’ scavenger hunt adds an extra layer of fun to the festivities.”
