Dearest DeKalb,
I’d like to take a moment to express my gratitude to you for your support in the runoff election. With your support, I received 60% of the votes cast and I will go on the November General Election ballot without Republican opposition.
In the recent Runoff Election, you held true to your desire to raise the bar in government and for a new direction. With your support, I carried a majority vote at 174 out of 191 precincts, only yielding 20 precincts to my opponent with 1 precinct tied. We have accomplished what many did not think possible. With your vote, I have ended the political machine that has long held DeKalb. We have proven endorsements do not win elections – votes do.
I have worked hard to deliver a win for the people of DeKalb. To achieve this win, we have visited the homes of over 17,000 DeKalb residents for literature drops. During the race we placed 800 signs in yards and printed 5,500 yard signs and large-scale signs. We have made over 20,000 phone calls to homes and sent 236,000 mailers to registered voters asking for the vote.
Today, I am happy to be the people’s candidate. As I move forward to become your CEO, I am proud to represent all DeKalb residents, whether you voted for me or not – black, white, brown, rich, poor, Democrats and Republicans. I look forward to earning the trust of those who have supported other candidates by delivering results you can see. You can count on me to work diligently alongside fellow Commissioners, Constitutional Officers, civic leaders, state and national leaders, and the community.
DeKalb we have finished what we started. I have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of calls, emails, and text messages. We’ve made history together. If I have not yet responded to your outreach, please know I am working hard to get through all messages.
As your CEO, I will ensure efficient government and work hard to bringing change and prosperity to our communities. I will create a government that makes life better, safer, and fairer. I will recruit businesses that enhance our communities, develop affordable housing, and tackle difficult issues like high-capacity transit.
With your vote we have begun the journey to reimagine DeKalb!
