ATLANTA, GA—DeKalb County community activist Teresa Hardy is being elevated in her religious life in the New Year. Hardy will be ordained as a deacon on Jan.15, 2023, 3 p.m., at Salem Bible Church, 2283 Baker Road N.W., Atlanta. She will be among several elders and ministers who will be ordained on that Sunday afternoon at Salem, which is under the leadership of the Rev. Jasper W. Williams, Jr. and Pastor Joseph L. Williams.
As a deacon, Hardy will serve the pastors and membership at Salem in carrying out the church’s mission and vision as well as assisting with pastoral care initiatives.
Hardy said her parents, Billy and Ada Hardy, used the biblical scripture Proverbs 22:6 as a guiding vessel to raise seven children: “Raise up a child in the way that they should go and they will not depart from it.”
Hardy said her parents made sure that she and her siblings were involved in church when they were growing up, participating in various youth groups at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, Springhill Baptist Church and New Hope Missionary Baptist. Hardy said these churches provided a foundation that has carried her through faith-based living.
After leaving home to attend the University of Alabama at Birmingham, AL in 1990, Hardy said she relied on the scripture “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (Philippians 4:13) ” to carry her through a new chapter in her life.
In 1994, as a college student, Hardy attended New Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church in Birmingham, AL where she was an evangelistic leader in the Christian Education Ministry, Women’s Ministry and choir.
She moved to Atlanta in 2000 and in 2002, she and her family joined Salem Bible Church where she has been actively participating in the following ministries: Christian Education, Political/Social Justice and Small Group Growth Leader.
Hardy says she gives all the praise to God for getting her to this new chapter in life and is excited about accepting the call to serve.
The journey of her life, Hardy said, is pre-destined as God stated in Jeremiah 29:11.
“I look forward to a faith-filled journey of serving the church, Pastors and community,” said Hardy.
