DEKALB COUNTY, GA— DeKalb County Police Department (DKPD) announced today that it stopped more than 100 vehicles at an attempted street racing meet-up last weekend at Wade Walker Park on Rockbridge Road.
East Precinct officers quickly responded to a call about the meet-up on Saturday, May 10, around 1:15 a.m. After blocking the drivers from exiting the park and calling in support from North Central, Tucker and South Precincts, as well as Stone Mountain Police and Lithonia Police, investigators issued 100 citations for being at the park after dark. One suspect was also arrested for an outstanding warrant from another agency. Additionally, video evidence helped connect the suspected organizer to other similar meet-ups that have occurred recently.
A warrant has been issued for the suspected organizer. Once in custody, the suspect will face special bond conditions including orders to stay away from DeKalb County Parks and two other known locations of street racing meet-ups.
DKPD thanks the Stone Mountain Police and Lithonia Police for their assistance in this large scale collaborative effort to crack down on street racing. DKPD stated in its news release that it has a zero tolerance for events that disrupt and endanger the community.
