DEKALB COUNTY, GA—Twin sisters Sanaa and Sole Frederick have qualified to represent Trinidad and Tobago in the 4×100-meter relay at this summer’s Paris Olympics that begin on July 26.

“Wow, Olympians,” said Druid Hills track coach Henrietta George about her two track stars making the Trinidad and Tobago squad headed to the Olympics. “My coaches and I are ecstatic about Sole and Sanaa heading to the Olympics. It has been a joy to watch their dreams come true right before our eyes.”

The pair had a stellar career at DeKalb County’s Druid Hills High School under the direction of track coach Henrietta George as they led the Lady Red Devils to back-to-back second place finishes in the Class 4A State Track meets in 2023 and 2024 with record-setting performances. The squad finished just three points out of first with 90 points against the 93 put up by Westminster.

The sisters broke the 200-meter dash record for the second consecutive year at the GHSA Class 4A State Track and Field Championships as both surpassed Sanaa’s 2023 record of 23.39 in another 1-2 finish. Sanaa ran a 23.16 for the new overall record and Sole was just .16 behind at 23.32 to come under last’s mark.

“It seems like a dream for me as I really got started just three years ago,” said Sole Frederick. “It feels great to make such a big event after all the hard work. And it is just the beginning.”

The Lady Red Devils also picked up gold medals in three of the four relay events led by a third consecutive gold in the 4×100-meter relay with a time of 45.24 to eclipse their state record of 45.74. The two sisters teamed with Jadyn Boden and Delali Setrana for the win.

The Fredericks and Bolden joined Miya Carthan for a second consecutive state gold in the 4×400-meter relay with a time of 3:54.20.

Sanaa Frederick became one of the most decorated girls’ track athletes in DeKalb history as she completed a third consecutive sweep in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes, giving her six individual gold medals to go with a silver in the 200 and a bronze in the 100 in 2021. She owns the Class 4A state meet records in the 100 (11.41) and the 200 (23.16)

“It is such a blessing for us to get to tryout and make the Trinidad-Tobago Olympic team as such a young age,” said Sanaa. “It makes for such a long season but there is plenty more to come as we have more opportunities for the Olympics and World Games in the coming years.”

Sole Frederick has earned three golds in the 4×100 relay, two golds and one silver in the 4×400 relay to go with back-to-back silver medals in the 200, including two state record breaking times and a bronze in the 400 (2023) at the Class 4A State Championships in her career.

The sisters were also instrumental in back-to-back DeKalb County Girls’ Track and Field Championships (2023-24) as well as two county Top 4 finishes (2021-22) in their four-year run at Druid Hills. Druid Hills also earned runner-up finishes four consecutive years in region competition.

“Their positive attitude, hard work and dedication have inspired so many high school student-athletes to realize their dreams can come true,” said George. “May they continue to soar and reach higher heights. We wish them all the best in Paris.”

They are the daughters of Peter and Stella Frederick and Peter Frederick had this to say about his daughters, “I am very grateful, thankful, and blessed to be part of this journey, process and accomplishments for the last four years of their athletic career. Being their coach/dad was very challenging, but we made it. I wish them all the best in the future at the University of Georgia, and the best is yet to come out of my daughters.”

The pair are heading this fall to the University of Georgia on track scholarships where they will prepare for Southeastern Conference and NCAA championships.
