DEKALB COUNTY, GA: DeKalb County native Dionne McGee is kicking off her campaign for DeKalb County State Court Judge on April 13 at Wahoo! Grill in Decatur. McGee will run for the open seat that will be vacated by retiring Judge Wayne Purdom in 2024.
McGee has more than 22years of practicing experience, serving in criminal defense, criminal prosecution, personal injury, and family law. McGee currently is a Senior Assistant District Attorney in the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office, serving as a member of the Crime Strategies and Community Partnerships Unit in South DeKalb.
“I believe judges should have extensive trial experience, the temperament to make fair and sound decisions, and a sincere connection to the community. It is not only the work that is done inside of the courtroom that matters; it is also the work that is done in and for the community that impacts the lives of those who call DeKalb home.”
McGee is a graduate of Redan High School and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Georgia and a Juris Doctor from Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School. She has served on the Board of Governors for the State Bar of Georgia and is active in the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys and the Georgia Association for Women Lawyers. McGee is a past president of the DeKalb Lawyers Association and a member of the 2019 class of Leadership DeKalb.
McGhee and her husband of 22 years, Kevin McGee, have raised 2 daughters, Kayla and Amaya, who both attended DeKalb County schools. McGee is a member of the DeKalb section of the National Council of Negro Women and a 29-year member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., serving in the Tau Pi Omega Chapter of Stone Mountain and Lithonia.
More than 20 individuals are serving on the host committee for her kick-off campaign. Currently, she is the only declared candidate in this race.
