DEKALB COUNTY, GA–Commissioners Mereda Davis Johnson, District 5, and Michelle Long Spears, District 2, are partnering to host the Companion Animals and Friends event on Saturday, Oct. 5, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Redan Recreation Center, 1839 Phillips Road, Lithonia.
The family-friendly event, part of the Save Our DeKalb Animals initiative, promotes animal wellbeing by fostering collaboration and providing practical solutions.
“This event is about bringing our community together to support our furry companions and the residents who care for them,” said Commissioner Davis Johnson. “I am proud to partner with Commissioner Long Spears on this initiative, which demonstrates our commitment to animal challenges and highlights the essential role animals play in our lives.”
Event highlights include speakers from DeKalb Animal Enforcement, Kirk Cats, Advocates for DeKalb Animals, and more. Attendees can register for free pet vaccines, microchipping and receive TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) vouchers for spaying and neutering cats. Pets also willbe available for adoption, giving attendees the chance to provide a loving home to an animal in need.
“We want to ensure that every pet and pet owner has access to the resources they need,” said Commissioner Long Spears. “This event is a fantastic opportunity for residents to connect with vital services, get involved in the Save Our DeKalb Animals initiative, and have fun doing it.
